Our Mission
The Foundation’s vision is to be a premier private foundation that fosters and communicates research to understand the effects of alcohol on health and behavior, and its mission is:
To achieve a better understanding of the effects of alcohol on the health and behavior of individuals,
To provide the scientific basis for prevention and treatment of alcohol misuse and alcoholism,
To fund innovative, high quality research,
To support promising new investigators,
To communicate information with the research community and other interested parties.
For over 30 years, ABMRF/The Foundation for Alcohol Research has funded research grants on important biomedical and sociobehavioral aspects of alcohol consumption and supported research-related activities through scientific meetings, professional conferences and symposia on specialized topics.
For over 30 years, the foremost objective of ABMRF/The Foundation for Alcohol Research was to fund research grants on important biomedical and sociobehavioral aspects of alcohol consumption.
The Foundation primarily funded projects concerning factors that influence transitions in drinking patterns, the effects of moderate consumption, mechanisms underlying the effects of alcohol, and the etiology of alcohol misuse. It also encouraged multidisciplinary studies of alcohol use.
For more than 30 years, ABMRF/The Foundation for Alcohol Research has sponsored or supported numerous scientific meetings. These meetings provided an opportunity for researchers, clinicians, and students to share new findings and discuss the current state of knowledge in various areas of alcohol research with each other and with industry professionals.
